Terry Kay Penkert
Jul 25, 2021   11:00 AM

Terry Kay Penkert, 74, of Miles, Texas, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 14, 2021after a reoccurring battle with cancer.

He was born on Monday, February 10, 1947, to Frank and Virginia Katherine (Treadaway) Penkert in San Angelo, Texas. After graduating from Miles High School, he went on to serve honorably in the United States Armed services. During his service, he was awarded several medals including the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal, and the Bronze Star Medal among many other accolades. After his service, he went on to work in repairs for Sears for many years before starting his own repair business, Penkert’s Overall Repair. He prided himself by being able to repair almost anything. Terry also took an interest in preserving the history of his hometown by helping at the Miles Museum and starting the Facebook page “Miles Memories”. He was honored to participate in the Permian Basin Honor Flight in May 2018 with fellow veterans. He spent many years filming dirt track races at nearby speedways. Terry traveled the state working on family genealogy. He attended the events of his children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews, almost always videoing and taking pictures. He was a proud Miles Bulldog and Veribest Falcon fan.

Terry is preceded in death by his parents Frank and Katherine Penkert, his brother James (Jimmy) F. Penkert, sister-in-law Kathy Penkert, brother-in-law Randy Wright and nephews Jim Penkert and Eric Penkert.

He is survived by his daughters Eyrin Book and husband Bill of Miles and Alicia Penkert of San Angelo. Terry is also survived by his sister Fayann Wright of Miles, his grandchildren Taylen (Conner), Jada, Hayven, and Racen Book, and his special nieces and nephews Chris Blackwell and wife Charla, Robin Wright, and Great-nieces Cora (Fizzle) Blackwell and Britnee Counts. He leaves behind many family members and special friends.

A graveside service will be held on Sunday, July 25, 2021, at 2:00 pm at the Miles Cemetery with Gary Karschner officiating. A reception and visitation will follow at the Miles United Methodist Church in Miles, Texas.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Miles Museum in Terry’s honor.

The family wishes to thank especially Dr. Cheriku, the medical staff at Shannon 5 North, and Hospice of San Angelo.
