Tree trimming crews contracted by AEP are working along power lines from Miles to Ballinger to Winters, including within the Ballinger city limits.
Utility officials say routine tree trimming is essential to prevent branches from contacting power lines, one of the leading causes of outages, especially during high winds and severe weather. Keeping vegetation clear also helps improve service reliability and allows crews safer access to electrical equipment.
As work continues, all trimmed trees will be mulched. Residents can pick up the free mulch at 302 South Sixth Street in Ballinger while supplies last. If the mulch pile becomes too large, contractors will move excess material to the city’s tree pit.
