The City of Ballinger and Runnels County are moving forward together after last year’s dispute over road paving responsibilities.
Runnels County Commissioners voted unanimously January 27th to approve a new interlocal agreement with the city. Under the deal, Ballinger will handle street preparation work, including base and hot oil mix, while the county provides paving services at a flat rate of two-thousand dollars per load, paid after completion.
Ballinger City Manager Lindsey Gayoso tells KRUN News the process is complex; noting streets must be prepared, allowed to set for about six months, and then reworked before paving can begin.
Six streets are scheduled for improvement this year, including sections of Sharp Avenue, Sixth Street, Largent Avenue, and Hamilton.
Gayoso says paving is expected to begin in late July or early August.
The agreement will be reviewed annually. Runnels County also provides paving support to Winters, Miles, and Wingate, along with maintaining county roads.
