With freezing temperatures expected to begin Friday and continue into early next week, the City of Ballinger has opened a warming center to help residents stay safe from the cold. The Ballinger Community Center at 200 Crosson Avenue is available and will provide heat, cots, blankets, and bottled water. Anyone needing shelter is asked to contact Runnels County Dispatch at 325-365-3591 for assistance.
At the state level, Governor Greg Abbott has directed the Texas Division of Emergency Management to activate emergency response resources ahead of the winter weather. The National Weather Service says an arctic cold front could bring dangerously cold temperatures and wind chills, along with the possibility of freezing rain, sleet, or snow that could impact travel and infrastructure. Winters officials say they are monitoring conditions and will determine if a warming center is needed there.
