The City of Ballinger has issued a boil water notice for customers served by the community public water system following Friday’s major water line break and repair.
City officials say the break occurred on the main water line running from Crosson Avenue to North and South Second through Fourth Streets, affecting areas including Country Club Road, County Road 288, South Ballinger, downtown Ballinger, and extending to the Walmart area and the airport.
Because water pressure dropped below state requirements during the outage, the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality requires the city to notify residents to boil water before using it for drinking, cooking, brushing teeth, or making ice.
Officials say water should be brought to a vigorous rolling boil for at least two minutes before consumption. Bottled water may also be used.
The boil water notice will remain in effect until water testing confirms the system is safe. Residents will be notified when the notice is lifted.
