UPDATE
City officials report the leak at the intersection of Fourth Street and Crosson has now been repaired. Water crews have reopened the valve and are currently refilling the system. The repair clamp is holding, and water service should now be returning to affected areas.
As the system refills, residents may notice air in their water lines. Officials recommend opening faucets and allowing the water to run for a short time to help release that trapped air.
However, the Boil Water Notice remains in effect for customers in the affected areas. Residents should continue to boil water for drinking, cooking, and food preparation until water quality testing is completed. Those results are expected Monday, March ninth.
City officials are thanking the Ballinger Water Distribution Team for their quick response and work to restore service as quickly as possible.
BREAKING NEWS
The City of Ballinger Water Distribution Department is currently repairing a water line leak at the intersection of Fourth Street and Crosson. Officials say the damage occurred when an outside contractor struck a major water main.
Because the line is a primary main, crews must drain the standpipe to complete repairs. As a result, water service is temporarily shut off for a large portion of the city. The outage affects customers from Country Club Road through South Ballinger, including the downtown area, extending west to Walmart and the Ballinger Airport.
City officials say once water service is restored, the entire affected area will be placed under a Boil Water Notice as required by state regulations. That notice will remain in effect until water quality tests are completed, which is expected by Monday, March ninth.
Residents are asked for patience while crews work to restore service as quickly and safely as possible. The city says additional updates will be released as new information becomes available.
