The Carnegie Ballinger Library is encouraging children to keep reading this summer with a new rewards program designed to help students stay sharp for the next school year.

Beginning after the last day of school, children who check out and read five books can earn a free soft-serve ice cream cup from Sonic in Ballinger. Kids who read 10 books will receive a free day pass to the Ballinger City Pool.

Library staff say summer reading helps students maintain reading skills, supports academic success and encourages lifelong learning habits.

Children can stop by the Carnegie Ballinger Library to pick up a reading form and track the books and authors they read throughout the summer.
