With cold weather moving into the region, local officials are is reminding residents to take steps now to prevent frozen pipes.
Homeowners should check sprinkler and irrigation systems, eliminate drafts around doors and windows, and know how to shut off their water in case of an emergency. Officials also recommend wrapping exposed pipes with insulation.
When temperatures drop below freezing, allow a small trickle of water to run from faucets and open cabinet doors to help warm air reach the pipes. If pipes do freeze, shut off the water immediately and warm the area using a hair dryer or space heater — but keep heaters away from standing water.
Remember the 4 P’s in cold weather – take care of people, pets, plants and pipes!
