DISCOLORED WATER PROMPTS CALLS IN BALLINGER

SHARE NOW

Ballinger city officials say recent reports of discolored drinking water are no cause for alarm. According to a notice from the City of Ballinger Water Treatment Plant, the water is safe to drink and meets all EPA primary drinking water standards.

The discoloration is linked to elevated levels of manganese, a naturally occurring mineral. Warmer temperatures and water inflows at Ballinger Lake and Lake O.H. Ivie Reservoir have temporarily impacted reservoir chemistry, causing manganese levels to rise.

While manganese can affect the water’s appearance and stain fixtures, it poses no health risk at current levels.

City crews are working to resolve the issue. Residents noticing unusual water color are advised to flush their lines for a few minutes. If the problem continues, contact Ballinger City Hall.
