The City of Miles is reminding residents that toilets are not trash cans after someone flushed a pair of boxer shorts in the Kasberg subdivision.
The underwear reached a sewer lift station and damaged a pump that moves wastewater into the city’s main sewer system. Repairs are expected to cost about $5,000—making these some very expensive briefs.
City officials say only human waste, wastewater and toilet paper belong in toilets. Clothing, wipes and other trash can damage equipment, strain the city budget and potentially increase utility costs.
The city’s message: Think before you flush.
