FORMER RUNNELS COUNTY JAILERS SENTENCED FOR SEXUAL MISCONDUCT WITH INMATES

SHARE NOW

Two former Runnels County jailers have been sentenced following convictions for engaging in improper sexual activity with inmates.

Alexander Govia Harrison and Cary Lamont Hubbard were originally arrested in June 2020 after the Texas Rangers investigated allegations of sexual misconduct at the Runnels County Jail. Harrison pleaded guilty to two felony charges in April 2022 and received a probated two-year state jail sentence. Hubbard, who served as a sergeant at the jail, pleaded guilty on May 27 and was sentenced to 365 days in state jail.

District Attorney John Best said Hubbard’s conduct endangered the safety of both inmates and staff, emphasizing that public officials will be held to high standards. Both men are now convicted felons.

Authorities say the investigation began in May 2020, when the sheriff’s office contacted the Texas Rangers about misconduct involving two jailers and two female inmates.
