Runnels County residents are being warned about a jury duty scam designed to scare victims into sending money.
Callers may claim to be law enforcement officers or court officials and say you missed jury duty and face immediate arrest unless you pay a fine. They may use fake badge numbers, names of local officials and spoofed caller ID numbers to appear legitimate.
Authorities say courts and law enforcement will not demand payment over the phone for missing jury duty.
If you get one of these calls, hang up and don’t send money. Then call local law enforcement directly. And please warn your parents, grandparents and elderly neighbors. A quick conversation today could keep someone in Runnels County from becoming the scammer’s next victim.
