Ballinger residents will gather Memorial Day for the annual Justin Byler Memorial 5K Run, Walk and Ride at City Park. The event honors Army Specialist William Justin Byler, remembered for his dedication to country and community.
Byler was 23 years old and assigned to the 101st Airborne Division out of Fort Campbell, Kentucky. He was killed in Iraq in 2005 when a roadside bomb exploded near his Humvee during patrol operations in Iraq. He earned the Bronze Star and Purple Heart during his military service.
The memorial run has become a yearly Ballinger tradition, bringing the community together in remembrance while raising money for the Justin Byler Scholarship Fund. The event begins at 9 a.m. May 25th at Ballinger City Park. Entry fee is 30 dollars, and registration forms can be turned in at The Treadmill. Participants who register by May 19th will receive an event T-shirt.
