New Texas Tax Law Brings Relief to Small Businesses

Topic: Texas Small Business Tax Relief

This week, KRUN-AM begins a special series examining new laws and major legislation taking effect in 2026 — and what they mean for rural Texans.

Today, we start with new Texas tax relief aimed at small businesses — changes that could put more money back into the hands of local shop owners, farmers, and service providers.

A new Texas law taking effect in 2026 could mean real savings for small businesses across Runnels County.
House Bill 9 significantly raises the business personal property tax exemption — jumping from just twenty-five hundred dollars to one hundred twenty-five thousand dollars.

That means many locally owned businesses, including farm suppliers, repair shops, retailers, and service companies, may no longer owe property taxes on equipment, furniture, and inventory.

State leaders say the change is designed to help small businesses reinvest, hire, and grow — especially in rural communities.

For many West Texas business owners, it could mean keeping more money at home instead of sending it to the tax office.
