Ballinger & Miles Begins Nighttime Mosquito Spraying

The Cities of Ballinger and Miles have begun nighttime mosquito spraying after receiving a new mosquito treatment shipment.

City crews will be fogging neighborhoods after dark in an effort to reduce mosquito populations and help limit the spread of mosquito-borne illnesses. Residents are urged not to follow behind the fogging truck for their safety and the safety of city workers.

Experts say mosquito fogging can temporarily reduce adult mosquito populations, but long-term control also depends on residents eliminating standing water where mosquitoes breed. That includes emptying containers, cleaning gutters and changing water in pet bowls and bird baths regularly.

The city says spraying will continue during evening hours as conditions allow.
