The Ballinger Bearcats came within one point of a district football championship Friday night, falling to Sonora 42-to-41 in overtime.  Ballinger trailed 34-to-13 late in the third quarter before staging a remarkable comeback.  Quarterback Wyatt Clemens scored with 48 seconds remaining, and a successful two-point conversion forced overtime.  The Bearcats scored first in the extra period, but Sonora answered with a touchdown and a game-winning two-point conversion.  Ballinger falls to seven-and-two overall and four-and-one in district.  The Bearcats host Ozona next Friday.

The Miles Bulldogs and Winters Blizzards both suffered district football losses Friday night.  Miles fell to Albany 56-to-7, while Winters was shut out by Cross Plains 53-0.  The losses came as both teams entered the final weeks of District 7-2A Division II competition.  Miles will return home next Friday to face Cross Plains in a game with playoff implications.  Winters will also be at home, hosting Stamford.  Both games are scheduled for November sixth as the regular season comes to a close.
