A strong thunderstorm damaged Ballinger Memorial Hospital District facilities shortly after 5 p.m. Thursday, but officials say all patients and staff are safe.
The Professional Building sustained significant roof damage, while additional hospital damage remains under assessment. The emergency room, laboratory and all other hospital services remain operational, and the hospital continues accepting transfers.
Keel Drug, Ballinger Hospital Clinic, Radiology and the Rehabilitation and Wellness Center are also open during regular hours. Patients should keep their scheduled appointments.
The National Weather Service said Thursday’s storms were capable of 40-to-50-mile-per-hour wind gusts, pea-size hail, lightning and locally heavy rainfall. KRUN reported .58 of a inch fell in south Ballinger.
The public should use caution near hospital facilities while repair crews and heavy equipment are working.
