Runnels County homeowners may be eligible for financial help to install a residential storm shelter or safe room. Funding is still available, but the grant timeline is running out, all safe rooms/storm shelters must be installed by June 30, 2027.
The West Central Texas Council of Governments has received a FEMA grant to help residents better protect themselves during tornadoes and severe thunderstorms.
The program will reimburse 50 percent of the project cost, up to a maximum of three-thousand dollars.
Applicants must own the property, live in an eligible county — including Runnels County — and the residence cannot be located in a FEMA floodplain.
Applications and additional information are available through the West Central Texas Council of Governments Residential Safe Room Program or contact Karla Sadler, Homeland Security Program Specialist, 325-672-8544 Office Extension 331
