Alton Lee Pierce, 75, of Winters passed away Thursday, May 28, 2026 in Winters. He was born January 1, 1951 in Winters to Jack and Loretta Pierce. He grew up in Winters and graduated from Winters High School in 1970. He married his high school sweetheart, Betty Arlene Knight, on August 1, 1970 at Southside Baptist Church in Winters. After 2 years of college at McMurray University where he participated in football and track, he went to work in the oil and gas industry for 42 years before retiring in 2014.
Alton and Betty built a life full of love and devotion to each other. He cherished time with his family, raising his daughters to be strong but gentle with a strong work ethic, and instilling a love for sports and outdoors. He especially enjoyed being Poppa to his grandchildren, whether he was reading a letter from Santa, shooting them with nerf guns, getting injured in kickball, or playing cards and dominoes. Alton was adored by not only his family, but the Knight family that he married into when he wed Betty. There were plenty of fishing stories and nights spent spotlight hunting that they all enjoyed together.
Through a traumatic health crisis, Alton strengthened his relationship with God. This encouraged him to spread the love of his Lord and Savior with those around him, providing peace of mind to those he loves.
He was preceded in death by his parents Jack and Loretta Pierce, sister Janice Marks, brothers-in-law: Billy Hicks, Charles Knight, and Cy Banner, and sister-in-law Ruby (Knight) Morrison and husband Fred.
