1956-2026
Deborah Ray Wilson, 70, of Winters, Texas passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, July19th after a long courageous battle with bladder cancer.
Mom, Deb or Grammy as most knew her lived most of her life in the Kansas City area with her loving husband of 50 years, Larry Wilson.
She was a housewife, a softball coach and a cheerleading coach. She was employed by Sam's Club in Lenexa, KS for 28 years until retiring in January of 2018. She met many great people along the way and still talked to some, especially her bestie Sandy.
Her greatest accomplishment was her family. Her marriage, seeing her children find their people and having long marriages, as well. She got to see all her grandchildren and great grandchildren brought into the world. When she decided she was done with treatment, she told her doctor. "I have lived a great life, my kids are grown, my grandchildren are grown and my great grandchildren are taken care of".
She loved the outdoors, tanning in her swimming pool, sharing her mac and cheese recipe, the lake life and walking miles when she could.
She and her husband Larry moved to Winters in January of 2019 to enjoy retirement, and to be closer to her daughter, granddaughters and great grandchildren. Soon after she moved here, she became a member of the First Baptist Church of Winters, where she met a lot of great people. During the last 5 years, they have been her rock, the constant messages, weekly food deliveries, visits during her many hospital stays and daily prayers.
Our Grammy leaves behind her husband and caregiver Larry Wilson of the home, her beloved dog Bruno, her son Dawayne Wilson and wife Amanda (Wichita, KS) grandson Devin and granddaughter Alyvia, her daughter Kelly Smith and husband Jake (Winters), granddaughters Taylor (Hallsville TX) (Joseph) and Marley (San Angelo) and her great-grandchildren Lilah, Lucas and Kash. She also leaves behind her brother Robert Shipps (Stillwell, KS) many friends, family and more nephews than nieces.
She is preceded in death by her parents Mary Fanska, Carl Fanska, Bob Shipps, her sister Donna and 2 nephews that passed away at birth.
A special thank you to Angie Donica for spending her last few days helping to make her comfortable, caring for her in the most passionate way possible and loving her like her own family member.
Grammy's wish was cremation and services at Winters Funeral Home. The service will be Saturday, July 25 at 1:00pm. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to your favorite charity in her name.
She will be deeply missed, and we will forever cherish all the memories we made.
"A Family that plays together stays together" We love you Grammy.
