Frances Hord
1941-2026

Frances Mincey Hord, age 85, of Winters, Texas, died March 31, 2026 at Ballinger Healthcare and Rehabilitation in Ballinger, Texas after a brief illness.

She was born February 8, 1941, in Winters, Texas to Marion "ML" Wood and Doris Bodine Wood.
Frances was one of the last students to have attended 1st grade at the school in Crews and then graduated from Winters High School in 1959. She went on to marry Don Mincey at the family farm in Crews, Texas in 1961. In 1962, they welcomed their only child, Darla. She then went on to being a teacher's aide for special education students in Big Spring, Texas. A profession she loved. She retired after twenty plus years in education. After retirement, she loved to travel with family and friends.
In 1979, Don passed away suddenly. In 1999, she went on to marry her high school sweetheart, John Hord. They were married until his death in 2006.
Frances enjoyed crotchet, reading country and western stars biographies, going to the local diner for coffee, and keeping up with her two grandchildren, Steven and Jana. Her grandchildren love to call her "Mama Fran".
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her grandmother Katie Bodine (Mama Kate); her sister Pat Bryant of Abilene and husband Malloy.
She is survived by her daughter, two grandchildren, sister Bobbie Calcote (Larry) and several nieces and nephews who love to call her "Franswa".
Thank you to all of her close friends for the laughter and joy they shared. A warm thanks to Theresa Patterson, Sheryl Webb, Carl Squyres and his late wife Cherie, Peggy Collier, Doug McLaughlin and the local diner. We would also like to thank Hendrick Hospital north and south, Ballinger Healthcare and Rehabilitation, Interim Hospice care from San Angelo, Texas, and the Winters Funeral Home. Special thanks go to nurses Billie and Sherri from Ballinger Healthcare and Rehabilitation for making my mother's passing peaceful and comfortable.
The service will be at the Winters Funeral Home on Monday, April 6th, at 10:30 AM with burial following at Crews Cemetery.
Visitation will be Saturday, April 4th from 9AM-8PM with family being there from 3PM-5PM.
