Otto Gerhart Gottschalk, 92, of Ballinger, passed away at home on August 13, 2026.
Otto was born to Carl Sr. and Elfreda Gottschalk at the family home near Wilmeth, Texas, on December 20, 1933.
After graduating from Norton High School, Otto went on to earn his degree in Agriculture from Texas Tech University. He taught agriculture at Nazareth High School for one year before entering the military. After returning home, he ranched in Nolan, Runnels, and Menard counties for more than 60 years. During that time, he developed an excellent herd of Red Angus cattle, of which he was very proud.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Martin Gottschalk; and his sisters, Frances Mielke and Carolyn Stewart.
He is survived by his brother, Carl Gottschalk Jr., and wife, Lynda; sister, Anna Shannon, and husband, Mike; sister-in-law, Peggy Gottschalk; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Also surviving are his dear friends Willie Rohmfeld and wife, Glenda; Rob Miller and wife, Linda; Gilbert Soto and wife, Elsa; David Cude and wife, Dee; Frank Reyes Jr.; and Jake Taff and wife, Lauren.
The family would like to thank Ballinger Home Health and Hospice, Rosa Galindo, Addie Escobar, Catherine Hill, and Charlsa Franz for the excellent care they provided to Otto.
There will be a visitation on Saturday, August 15, 2026, at Winters Funeral Home from 12:00 to 1:30 p.m., with burial to follow at the Lutheran Cemetery in Winters.
