Virginia Lee (Colburn) Brown, 95, of Winters passed away Saturday, September 13, 2025.
She was born November 5, 1929 in Winters to Vivian and Mida (Collinsworth) Colburn. She attended school at Pumphrey, Texas for the first two years, then finished and graduated from Winters High School. She attended Howard Payne University in Brownwood for a year before meeting Pyburn Brown at City Drug in Winters. They were married July 25, 1948 in Winters in the old First Baptist Church. They remained in Winters and raised their daughters, Rae and Marlene here. She worked at the primary and elementary school in Winters, from which she later retired. She loved watching the hummingbirds from her window, feeding the dove on the patio, and tending to her flowers. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Winters for about 89 years.
She was preceded in death by her husband Pyburn Brown, daughter Marlene Gardner, brother Billy Joe Colburn, and sister-in-law Kay Colburn.
She is survived by her daughter Rae Beck and husband Paul of Abilene; sister Janice Craig and husband John of McKinney; brother Ben Colburn and wife Juana of Levelland; 3 grandchildren: Chris Beck and wife Sandy of Tomball, Sean Gardner of Abilene, and Scotty Gardner of Abilene; 5 great-grandchildren: Belle Gardner, Gia Gardner, Ruby Gardner, Levi Gardner, and Teagan Hines; 1 great-great-granddaughter Ella Saap; as well as several nieces and nephews that she dearly loved.
Her family was most important to her, from the special relationships with her siblings, nieces, nephews and cousins, to the devotion she had as a wife, mother, and grandmother and her love for Jesus.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, September 18, 2025 at the First Baptist Church in Winters with burial following at Lakeview Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the First Baptist Church of Winters or the Rock Hotel Museum in Winters.
