Stay Safe in Texas: DPS Urges Precautions for Extreme Heat

SHARE NOW

The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) is urging residents to prepare for extreme heat conditions. According to a DPS statement, Texans should take necessary precautions to ensure their safety and well-being during this period of high temperatures.

DPS recommends staying hydrated by drinking plenty of water, even if you don’t feel thirsty. It advises wearing lightweight, light-colored clothing to help keep cool. Avoiding strenuous activities during peak heat hours can also reduce the risk of heat-related illnesses.

The DPS warns against leaving children or pets in vehicles, as temperatures can rise rapidly, posing significant health risks. It encourages checking on family members, friends, and neighbors who may be more vulnerable to heat.

DPS Director Steven McCraw emphasized the importance of being prepared and staying informed about weather conditions. He stressed, “The safety of Texans is our top priority, and being proactive is crucial in preventing heat-related dangers.”

Stay updated on local weather reports and heed any advisories issued by authorities to stay safe during these extreme conditions.
