Authorities in Coleman, Brownwood and Santa Anna ISDs are investigating a series of apparent “swatting” incidents over the past two days that prompted major law enforcement responses at local campuses. Coleman Police say officers and first responders immediately secured the school and safely relocated students and staff while a full sweep of the campus was conducted. No active threat was found at any of the three school districts.

Area school districts have been alerted of the incidents and urged to be aware of the swatting incidents.

The FBI defines swatting as a false emergency report designed to trigger a heavy police or SWAT response. Officials say the hoax calls create panic, disrupt classes and divert emergency resources from real emergencies. Coleman Police say the investigation remains ongoing and those responsible could face serious criminal charges
