Ballinger Firefighter Retires After 37 Years of Service

SHARE NOW

A longtime member of the Ballinger Volunteer Fire Department is hanging up his gear after nearly four decades of service to the community.

After 37 years with the Ballinger VFD — the Ballinger Volunteer Fire Department — the veteran firefighter is retiring following a career filled with dedication, leadership, and statewide recognition.

During those nearly four decades, he earned numerous honors for his service and commitment to protecting lives and property in Runnels County. One of the most historic moments came when he and his father, Alex, made Texas firefighting history. Both men were named State Firefighter of the Year — an award presented by the State Firefighters’ and Fire Marshals’ Association of Texas, the statewide organization that represents volunteer fire departments and promotes firefighter training and safety across Texas.

The recognition made the father-and-son duo the only father and son to receive the state’s highest honor for volunteer firefighters.

Friends and fellow firefighters say his 37 years of service represent a lifetime of commitment to the Ballinger community and to the proud tradition of volunteer firefighting in Texas.
