Montana Sheriff Reports Double Homicide; Suspect Has Runnels County Ties

The Stillwater County Sheriff’s Office in Columbus, Montana says two people are dead and two others injured after deputies responded to an assault in progress early Monday, Dec. 8.

According to the Sheriff’s Office press release, dispatch received a call Monday morning at 3:37, reporting an assault at 1015 Stillwater River Road. Deputies arrived to find four people with gunshot wounds. One victim died at the scene, and three were transported to a hospital. A second victim later died.

The suspect, 23-year-old Ty Allen Turney, was located in the area and arrested around 5:46 a.m. He is charged with two counts of deliberate homicide and two counts of attempted deliberate homicide. The investigation is ongoing with assistance from the Montana Division of Criminal Investigation.

Ty Allen Turney is a former resident of Ballinger. where he attended school.
