A new Netflix documentary will spotlight the life and legacy of legendary Texas Tech football coach — and former Ballinger Bearcat — Spike Dykes. The film is set to premiere August 15, 2025.
Dykes, a standout on Ballinger’s 1953 state finalist team, went on to lead the Red Raiders from 1986 to 1999, notching 82 wins and six victories over rival Texas. Known for his homespun humor and genuine care for his players, Dykes became a beloved West Texas icon before his death in 2017.
The documentary promises never-before-seen footage and heartfelt stories from family, former players, and colleagues, celebrating the coach who left a lasting mark far beyond the football field.
