Heavy rains and river runoff across the Ballinger area have pushed O.H. Ivie Reservoir from roughly 40 percent full in mid‑June to about 55 percent full as of July 19, recovering from drought lows earlier this spring
That nearly 15‑point gain—about 80,000 to 90,000 acre‑feet of water—is a big boost for local water supplies. As August approaches, this refill ensures more reliable municipal and agricultural water for communities served by the Colorado River Municipal Water District.
Having more water in storage also helps stabilize river flows downstream, supports recreational activities like fishing and boating, and offers a buffer against further dry spells.
City officials encourage residents and farmers to continue efficient water use, as the reservoir rebuild puts the region in a stronger position heading into late summer.
