Winters Man Sentenced in McLennan County Child Abuse Case

SHARE NOW

A Winters, Texas man and former Runnels County commissioner candidate has been sentenced to 16 years in prison for indecency with a child by contact.

According to KWTX Channel 10 in Waco, 64-year-old George Cody Hord was convicted Wednesday in Waco’s 474th State District Court after jurors deliberated about 30 minutes. The case involved abuse of a young family member during visits to Woodway.

As the punishment phase began Thursday morning, Hord agreed to serve 16 years on each of two counts, under an agreement with prosecutors Jessica Washington and Michel Simer. The sentences will run concurrently, and Hord waived his right to appeal. He must serve at least half his sentence, or about eight years, before becoming eligible for parole.

Before his arrest, Hord worked as Precinct 3 road and bridge foreman in Runnels County and later ran unsuccessfully for county commissioner in the 2024 primary election despite being under indictment.

KWTX-TV in Waco reports that prosecutors in Runnels County will dismiss similar charges involving another family member as part of the plea arrangement.

Again, that report comes from KWTX Channel 10 News in Waco.
