1933-2026
Jack Burns
J. W. (Jack Wesley) Burns gained his heavenly wings on Monday, September 21, 2026 after a three month stay in a local nursing home.
He was born April 21, 1933 in Wichita Falls, Texas and was the oldest of six children. He lived in Wichita Falls until his family moved from Wichita Falls to Colorado. From Colorado they moved to Throckmorton, Texas and in 1949 they moved to Winters, Texas.
Jack served as a corporal in the National Guard for several years. He worked for Humble Oil Company before working as a roustabout for Winters Oilfield and B's Oilfield. After leaving the oilfield, he worked at Piggly Wiggly in Winters and as an assistant manager at the Piggly Wiggly in Ballinger in the late 1970's and early 1980's. He then worked for the City of Winters, Texas until his retirement in 2003.
Jack met the love of his life, Cleadean (Graves) Burns in 1953 and they were married on June 1, 1956. Some people think they want a love like Johnny and June Cash, but what they need is a love like Jack and Cleadean. You very rarely saw one without the other. They spent summers growing a bountiful garden and working in the yard together year around. Jack accompanied Cleadean traveling to craft shows to help set up and sell her oil paintings. They created a beautiful life together and loved each other unconditionally and showed it in everything they did for each other and their family.
In addition to being a gardener, Jack used his talents in building and remodeling their home as well as other projects. He loved to cook and his family enjoyed eating all his special recipes. He was an avid Dallas Cowboys Football fan and University of Texas College Football fan. He would listen to University of Texas football games on the radio before games were broadcasted on television in our area.
Preceded in death, by his wife of 65 years, Cleadean (Graves) Burns. His parents, Jessie Lee and Nona Lee (Chaney) Burns, siblings David O'Dell Burns, Jimmie Dale Burns, Kenneth Lee Burns, Jerry Allen Burns, and Paula Sue (Burns) Patton, brother-in-laws, sister-in-laws and a niece, and numerous nephews.
He is survived by his son, Keith Wesley Burns of Winters, Texas, daughter, Lana (Burns) Flint and husband Randy of Ballinger, Texas, granddaughter, Renee Fulton and great-grandson Landon Lynch of Odessa, Texas.
He is also survived by nieces and nephews, Dena Santoya and husband Victor, Michael Patton and wife Dianna, Don Patton and wife Maggie of Winters, Jimmy Burns of Hobbs, New Mexico, Mireta Sanmiguel of Odessa, Texas, Kilah Lane and husband Johnny of Christoval, Texas, Noelisa Loehman, and husband Terry of Winters, Texas, Tammy Graves of San Angelo, Texas, Shari Graves and partner Amanda Tobias of San Angelo, Texas, several great nieces and nephews, great great-nieces and nephews and great-great-great nieces and nephews.
Jack is also survived by his friends and people that came into his life whether it be through work, brief stay in the hospital, or the nursing home. Anyone that met Jack and visited with him quickly became a friend. He had a gentle soul and took a genuine interest in everyone and made them feel important.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the very special nurses and nurses aides for the loving care of him during his last days on this Earth.
"When I entered this world I was crying and you were rejoicing, Now that I am leaving the world I am rejoicing and you are crying."
In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial donations be made to Meals On Wheels, Parkinson's Foundation or a favorite charity. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, October 24, 2026 at the Lake View Cemetery, Winters, Texas
