The American Legion Post 8 of Ballinger will host its annual U.S. Flag Retirement Ceremony Saturday, June 13th, from 8 until 10 a.m. at the SPJST Hall in Rowena.
Residents with worn, torn or otherwise unserviceable American flags are encouraged to bring them to the ceremony or drop them off in advance at Mr. Wright’s Tire in Ballinger, Raymond Clip Joint in Winters, or Lange Drilling Company in Rowena.
According to the U.S. Flag Code, flags that are no longer fit for display should be disposed of in a dignified manner, traditionally by ceremonial burning. American Legion posts across the country conduct retirement ceremonies as a sign of respect for the nation’s symbol and the freedoms it represents.
