The Texas Comptroller’s Office has announced that the City of Winters has earned a prestigious Transparency Star, an honor given to public entities that demonstrate exceptional openness in their financial reporting.
The Transparency Stars program evaluates how clearly local governments present information such as budgets, debt, contracts, economic development activity, and public pensions. Entities receiving the award go well beyond basic reporting requirements, offering residents easy-to-understand charts, visual tools, and downloadable financial data.
State officials say these features make it significantly easier for Texans to track how their tax dollars are used, with some communities earning “Trailblazer” recognition for receiving multiple stars.
Winters now joins that list of standout local governments and is among the smallest cities in Texas to receive the honor — a milestone the Comptroller calls a strong commitment to public accountability.
