The Texas Department of Public Safety will ramp up patrols statewide for a one-day enforcement effort tied to Cinco de Mayo.
Beginning at midnight May fifth, Texas Highway Patrol troopers will be watching closely for impaired driving, distracted driving and other dangerous behavior. The increased presence is aimed at keeping roads safe during the holiday.
Drivers are urged to plan ahead for a sober ride, stay focused behind the wheel and remain alert to others on the road.
DPS officials say simple decisions can save lives, reminding Texans that safety is a shared responsibility to ensure everyone makes it home safely.
