Fort Concho will celebrate National Cowboy Day this Saturday, July 26, with a free continental breakfast at 9 a.m. at Barracks 6, followed by an exhibit talk from Laura Huckaby and a skit by the Concho Cowboy Company.

Then on Monday, July 28, the fort marks the 159th anniversary of the Buffalo Soldiers, the all-Black Army units formed in 1866. A program led by Lieutenant General and Angelo State University President Ronnie Hawkins will be held at the West Texas Buffalo Soldier Memorial. A reception and exhibit viewing will follow at Barracks 1.

Once a frontier Army post, Fort Concho housed Buffalo Soldiers in the late 1800s, including the famed 10th Cavalry.

Events are free and open to the public. Call Fort Concho at 325-481-2646 for details
