Winters Independent School District is notifying parents and guardians about upcoming testing for lead in drinking water at district facilities.
The testing is part of the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality’s Lead Testing in School and Child Care Program, which helps schools identify and reduce potential lead exposure where children are served.
District officials expect to begin collecting water samples within the next 45 days. The process includes identifying drinking and food preparation outlets, collecting samples, sending them to an accredited laboratory, and reviewing results to determine whether any corrective action is needed.
Results will be shared with the community, and the district says it will continue working to reduce any potential exposure at its facilities.
Additional information about lead in drinking water is available through the EPA, and test results will be posted on the TCEQ program website.
