Winters Mayor Chris Bahlman has officially proclaimed Fire Chief Michael Blackshear as an Outstanding Samaritan for his quick and selfless actions that helped save a life earlier this month.
According to the Winters Volunteer Fire Department, on October 7th, Chief Blackshear was among the first responders to a cardiac arrest emergency on the roof of a local residence. Blackshear immediately began performing lifesaving CPR until EMS crews arrived. Working together, first responders from NRHEMS and the Winters Volunteer Fire Department stabilized the patient, who survived and is now recovering.
Mayor Bahlman’s proclamation commends Chief Blackshear for his “heroism, selflessness, and decisive action,” recognizing his dedication to the safety and well-being of the community he serves. The mayor also praised all first responders for their professionalism and teamwork that day.
City officials and citizens alike say the event is a reminder of the courage and compassion shown daily by Winters’ volunteers, law enforcement, and EMS personnel.
