A powerful piece of Texas history is making its way to Runnels County.

The Alamo Letter Society is leading a statewide effort to place bronze replicas of Victory or Death letter written by William B. Travis at courthouses across all 254 Texas counties.

The famous letter—penned during the siege of the Battle of the Alamo—called for reinforcements and ended with the immortal words, “Victory or Death.”

So far, roughly 20 counties have installed their plaques, with dozens more in progress as the project gains momentum statewide.

And now, Runnels County is stepping forward.

During the latest Commissioners Court meeting, officials accepted a generous 5-thousand dollar donation from Mr. and Mrs. Jackie Swanson to fund the county’s bronze plaque, which will be placed on the courthouse square.  County Judge Julia Miller said now the county will put together a committee to plan the plaque unveiling festivities.  No dates have been confirmed of when the bronze plaque would be available for delivery to the county.  Miller pointed out, “We have a lot of work ahead of us to complete this historical project,”

A lasting tribute to courage, sacrifice—and Texas pride.
