1945-2026
Charley Jack Blackshear, age 81, of Winters, Texas, passed away surrounded by his loved ones on April 3, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of hard work, faith, and deep love for his family.
Charley was born on February 9, 1945, in Ballinger, Texas, to Jack Blackshear and Ruth Cooke Boothe, both of whom preceded him in death. He grew up in the Ballinger area and attended Ballinger High School.
On June 27, 1964, Charley married the love of his life, Mary Jane Blackshear. Together they built a life centered on family, faith, and dedication to one another until her passing.
Charley proudly served his country in the United States Army and was stationed at Fort Hood. Following his service, he worked in the oil field industry, a career that took him across the globe, from his hometown of Winters to places as far as Malta and Saudi Arabia. No matter where his work took him, Texas was always home.
A devoted Baptist, Charley lived his life grounded in faith. He found great joy in the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing at the family farm. He was also a longtime member of the Winters Country Club, where he enjoyed playing golf with his brother and friends. Some of his favorite moments were spent with family, whether on the golf course or gathered around the table playing a lively game of left-right-center.
Above all, Charley was a family man. He is survived by his children, Deedra Grantham and husband Todd Grantham of Tuscola, Loy Newton and husband John Newton of Lancaster, South Carolina, and Perry Blackshear of Ballinger. He was a proud grandfather to Jennifer Martin and husband Tad Martin, Allie Lunsford and husband Brandon Lunsford, Megan Blackshear, Jasmine Blackshear, Brittany Blackshear, Jordan Newton, and Alexis Sanders and husband Jackson Sanders, as well as numerous great-grandchildren who brought him immense pride and joy.
He is also survived by his siblings Roy Keith Blackshear, Linda Joyce Elstad, and Ruth Ann Burnham. He was preceded in death by his brother Robert Lynn Blackshear and sister Patricia Evonne Blackshear.
Charley will be remembered for his strong work ethic, his love of the outdoors, his sense of humor, and the unwavering love he had for his family. His legacy lives on in the lives he touched and the memories he leaves behind.
Visitation will be held April 6, 2026 at 6 p.m. at the Winters Funeral Home. A service to celebrate Charley's life will be held at the Winters Funeral Home on April 7, 2026 at 10:30. A private family burial will follow.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you honor his memory by spending time with family, telling a good story, enjoying the outdoors, or playing a round of golf, just as he loved to do.
