A bill authored by Congressman August Pfluger of Texas to prohibit noncitizens from voting in Washington, D.C., passed the U.S. House today with bipartisan support. The legislation repeals the D.C. Local Resident Voting Rights Amendment of 2022, which allowed noncitizens to vote in local elections. Pfluger called it “common sense” that only American citizens should vote in U.S. elections. He warned the D.C. law could allow illegal immigrants and foreign agents to influence critical local decisions. House leaders praised the bill as a move to protect the integrity of American elections.
