Law enforcement is warning residents across Runnels County and surrounding communities to be on alert for a phone scam involving someone impersonating a U.S. Marshal. Police say the caller claims you have an active warrant tied to Runnels County cases, but that he is working out of Tom Green County. Victims are told to pay immediately and threatened with arrest if they go to the police department. Officials stress this is a scam. The U.S. Marshals Service and local law enforcement never call to demand money or threaten arrest over the phone. Reports of this scam have surfaced in Ballinger, Winters, Miles, and across the Agri-Plex. Authorities urge residents to hang up, protect their personal information, and report suspicious calls to Ballinger Police or the Runnels County Sheriff’s Office.
