Congressman August Pfluger has voted to pass the new Farm, Food, and National Security Act of 2026—commonly known as the Farm Bill—bringing key support to farmers and ranchers across Central West Texas.

The bill is the first major update since 2018 and includes expanded disaster assistance programs and stronger crop insurance options, aimed at helping producers manage weather losses and rising costs. It also boosts funding for conservation programs, including water-saving practices and drought relief—critical issues for the Concho Valley and Runnels County.

Provisions in the bill support livestock producers with full market-value compensation for losses, expand feral hog eradication efforts, and improve protections against animal disease threats along the southern border.

The legislation also increases reference prices for key crops like cotton, wheat, and sorghum, while adding new base acres to strengthen the farm safety net.

Pfluger says the bill delivers certainty and long-term support for West Texas agriculture, calling it a major win for the region’s farmers and ranchers.
