Runnels County remains under a countywide burn ban as the Labor Day weekend comes to a close. Commissioners adopted the order on August 12 due to continuing hot, dry conditions. The ban prohibits all outdoor burning, including trash fires and brush piles, unless specifically permitted for agricultural use. Sheriff Carl Squyres reminds residents that violating the burn ban is a Class C misdemeanor, punishable by a fine of up to five hundred dollars. Officials say the order will stay in effect until further notice, and residents are urged to take extra care with any outdoor activity that could spark a wildfire.
